R&K Solutions Honored for Excellence in "Employee Ownership" Communications

April 12, 2019 - R&K Solutions has been selected by The ESOP Association as the winner of the 2019 Printed Materials Annual Award for Communication Excellence (AACE).

The AACE Awards are sponsored each year by the Association to recognize the outstanding communications and educational programs of its members. The awards are presented each May at the Association's National Conference in Washington, D.C. to companies that have excelled in communicating the ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) and its meaning to the company's employees.

R&K Solutions is an employee-owned, small business headquarted in Roanoke, VA with offices in Alexandria, VA and San Antonio, TX. R&K specializes in real property business support for managers of some of the world's largest facilities portfolios. Since 1984, R&K has supported government and private sector clients with a full range of real property services and software solutions. After 20 years of managing R&K, the owners began to discuss management transition strategies for the company. Although R&K received many offers, the owners decided to set up an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) to provide a way for the employees to share in R&K's success. In the summer of 2019, the employee-owners will be celebrating 14 years of being employee-owned at the annual stock announcement.

R&K's ESOP Communication Committee members, Michelle Williams, Kevin VanDyke, Gerardo Mazariegos and Gary Calese, have worked hard on implementing and executing new and improved ESOP education guides, in-house webinars, employee-owner celebrations and programs, calendars, vesting cards, and on-boarding materials in 2018. This award is a reflection of all the effort, time and thought that came from the ESOP Communication Committee.

AACE Award winners are chosen by a panel of five judges made up of both management and non-management employee owners, each of whom has demonstrated active experience and interest in the field of ESOPs and employee ownership communications. Awards are based on: overall quality and quantity of employee owner education, contributions of employee owners, integration of the ESOP into company culture, frequency of ownership communications, involvement and/or response of employee owners, encouragement of ownership attitudes, clear explanations, creative ideas, graphic design and technical quality.
