R&K Wins Contract to Analyze Impact of Budget Cuts on Facility Condition for U.S. Army

R&K Solutions has been recently awarded a contract to use our own Facility Degradation Model (FDM) to predict the impact of low levels of facility sustainment funding on the future condition of the Army’s real property asset portfolio.

The predictive modeling used in the FDM, developed by R&K Solutions, is based on a detailed study of the determinants of facility degradation using a large dataset containing many years of Army facility condition data.

“At a time when the Army is facing steep funding shortfalls due to the sequester and a shrinking budget, it is more important than ever to understand the impact of the budget cuts on the future of the built environment in Army installations,” said Thomas Flippin, R&K’s Executive Vice President. “Our predictive models quantify these impacts in an objective way, helping Army leaders make informed decisions about their investments.”

The predictive modeling technology utilized by FDM allows users to run and compare different funding scenarios, and provides graphical visualizations that highlight the types of facilities that will need the most renovation. This visualization provides improved decision support, as well as a means for communicating facility requirements and scenario impacts across the organization in a way that is easily understood.

The Facility Degradation Model has a proven track record of making successful forecasts, and has also been used by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps to assist in facility budgeting decisions.
